being veggie saves the world...
Why is it good to be a vegetarian?
BECAUSE IT'S BETTER FOR YOU & THE ENVIRONMENT!
Lets see what a vegetarian diet can do to save the enviorment:
-saves destruction of rain forests.. rainforests are destroyed to create cattle farms or to introduce monoculture -often Genetically Modified. Every second, one football field of rainforest is destroyed in order to produce 257 hamburgers. TWO THIRDS OF CENTRAL AMERICAS RAINFORESTS HAVE BEEN DESTROYED TO RAISE CATTLE. Oh yeh and...The effort to clear rainforest to produce beef for one hamburger produces 75kg of carbon dioxide (CO2), therefore a vegetarian diet also reduces the production of CO2. (:
-How much energy do you think it would take to grow grains to feed cattle? Up to 16kg of crop or soja beans are needed to produce 1kg of beef! And lets consider that only a rather small amount of the meet is being sold to the consumers. Look at all that energy wasted. Funny how 90% of the soja beans that are produced goes to feeding cattle while millions of individuals are starving. Think if North America cut down their meat supply how many starving people they could feed. All the grains to feed cattle alone could feed all the starving people in the world. Although world hunger is a complex, multi-faceted issue, the high demand for meat is certainly a contributing factor
-And lets not forget, it's better for your body. It's a lot healthier and can prevent many diseases. Us veggies have a lower risk of heart disease, obesity, colon cancer, diabetes, gout, lung cancer, and many more. A vegetarian diet with a regular excercise routine can help reduce high blood pressure too. Who wouldn't want to be that healthy?
